Swindon Town 3–1 Colchester United By Bernie Summers

Bernie here, and I'll tell you what, they don't come much more dramatic than this down at the County Ground!

Ian Holloway's Swindon looked all at sea in that first half, I won't sugar-coat it. Danny Cowley had his Colchester lads purring, and when young Sesay slipped it through to Kouassi in the 13th minute, the big fella absolutely buried it. Top of the net. Goalkeeper didn't move. One-nil to the visitors and I was already reaching for my flask.

But here's where it gets good. Penalty to Swindon just after the break. Up steps Drinan — and Lo-Tutala guesses right and keeps it out! Wonderful save! But the ball breaks loose and Drinan bundles it home anyway! The County Ground erupts!

That goal changed everything. Swindon sensed it, the crowd sensed it, and I sensed it from row G of the press box. Drinan struck again in the 77th minute, then two minutes later latched onto a Thomson through ball to complete an extraordinary hat-trick.

Three goals in half an hour. Swindon 3, Colchester 1. Remarkable scenes. Bernie Summers, signing off.
